By now, you have probably figured out that a vital part of learning is reflecting on what you have done and where you have been. This "thinking about your thinking" creates opportunities to test out your thinking and your methods to see what worked and what needs improving.
In your comment, please respond to the following:
- What skills or techniques (annotation, time-saving researching techniques, using researching tools such as databases or the Internet) helped you research your topic and/or write your paper? How do you know these skills or techniques helped your project be more successful?
- What would you like to improve about your process for writing a research paper? Would you revise anything about the process?
- What did you learn about your topic as a result of this process? What did you learn about researching/writing as a part of completing this project?
Throughout this whole research paper I have been using annotation as my of helping my through this project more successfully. I know this has helped me because it has sped up the process and I know exactly what information I want, I can look back at comments I made, questions I had, and any other facts and notes I may have taken to incorporate into my essay.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I can think of that I know that should continue to be improved is where to put all my information into my essay…organization.
What I learned about my topic choice is that a lot. How people act around the opposite sex, body language, personality, status, power and romance. I learned that it requires you to spend a good amount of time on researching, coming up with a outline, to write a draft, revise, and finally put together the paper as a whole. You have to make sure you have a solid statement, a thesis, and a answer to your thesis. Most importantly information to back up your thesis to support your claim so it all makes sense and flows.
1.My all-time favorite was the post draft outline, for reading textbooks. It really helped me to grasp what I was reading much better than if I just read it without a plan. I also liked the research techniques, such as looking over the chapters to see if any of it is worth reading. Learning all these research tips has helped me a lot with organization. Although I have written a few research papers, I was never taught detailed steps to go about writing and researching. My professors just assumed I already knew how to write them.
ReplyDelete2.I think the thing that needs improving the most with my research papers is keeping things organized. I have the hardest time organizing my thoughts let alone putting them on paper for others to try to make sense of them. I love the way in class the research paper process was broken down into “bite size” chunks. You are a gifted teacher, and I would highly recommend you to any of my fellow students, and friends. Keep up the good work.
3.I learned that there are many types of flirting, for example men and woman flirt differently, and flirting is not always used for just finding that special someone. Some use flirting to gain power in the rat race. I also learned that a good paper takes time; you can’t just type out an awesome paper in one “all-nighter” session. If you take the time research papers can be fun, think about it you learn more details about something you didn’t know before you started your research.
I would have to agree with Amber and say that my favorite techique for writing the paper is the post draft outline. It just makes the writing process so much easier because you have already done the hard part of gathering the information. All i had to do was put it all together. I knew that this helped me to be more efficient because normally I would struggle to piece all of my information together without a post draft outline. Using it helped me power through it and finish in a timely manner.
ReplyDeleteI would like to improve on finding credible sources. I do not know why but this is usually easy for me but with this particular topic I struggled to find useful, credible sources. As far as the writing process, I believe I am finding some techniques that work great for me and at this point I would not change a thing.
I actually learned quite a bit about flirting from this. I had no idea that flirting was healthy, and that we all engage in it everyday just about, we just dont know beacuse it unintentional. But still flirting!
1. One technique that especially helped me out with writing my paper was thaw databases on the library website. It helped me boil down my topics and help me get sources that were legitimate. I know this because I went to Google and typed in things I thought would help me out and I got plenty of sites, but very few that were legit. The library was able to get me good sources and ones that gave me the best information.
ReplyDelete2. I feel that the one thing that I would need to improve is my ability to find credible sources if I cant find any using the library like I talked about in the first answer. The internet Is a big thing that anyone can put anything on and finding good enough sources is hard and can be a tedious task. I would revise my use of time and space it out better than rather waiting.
3. What I learned from my topic was about technology and how it affects everyone in the world of communication. Yes, it makes things easier, but at the same time, create dangers. It also taught me how to do better research when it comes to a bigger or harder research paper in the future.
1. One skill that helped me write my paper was the annotation method. Conversating with the text saved time because I can go back and look at what I wrote in the margins. Using that method allows my memory to be refreshed without re-reading the whole thing. Another skill that helped me was using the databases then looking at section titles and topic sentences which made it easier to answer my research question.
ReplyDelete2. I would like to improve on paraphrasing or summarizing what the author said without plagiarizing as well as getting better at avoiding long quotes in my paper. I would revise those things.
3. I learned quite a few things about my topic like the different ways communication is an important factor in marital breakups. I learned about all the skills/techniques and researching tools and how they can save you time in the writing process.
1.Reading the topic sentence of each paragraph helped me a lot. This saved me from reading a bunch of useless information that would have had nothing to do with my paper. Annotating also helped because i would write down a question then read and get information to answer it.
ReplyDelete2.I would probably have to say improving my resources. Most of mine are internet based which is most likely someone's opinion. I would probably have to revise the way i used my time. I spent a lot of time just getting sources.
3.I learned that most people who binge drink are between 18 - 22 and that a lot of the deaths can be prevented with education and new laws. I learned that research papers just sound intimidating, but if you use the techniques given in class then the paper is not that hard to do.
1.) I simply used one bum-rush of every library book source relating to the privacy debate. I took 2 hours of sifting through each book following your methods of: reading section headers, preface/post summary on the flaps of the book, and reading topic sentences. Then I narrowed my stack to 3 prime sources packed with useful information.
ReplyDelete2.) I still would like to improve how to write better introductory paragraphs without making one run-on thesis. That way it doesn't look like ameteur-hour and more like a professional paper.
3.) I learned that privacy has deep impacts for the individuals and government and that taking privacy away would have massive consequences. Such would send societiess back to times of code-talking and limited social interaction.
1.When researching I used the database on the OCC website and I went to the library and searched books under the topics I was researching. I also used a lot of annotation in the books. Using the database helped a lot because I know I’m getting accurate and truthful information.
ReplyDelete2.My topic was extremely hard to research. Everyone disagrees with my opinion and it’s hard to write an essay about that. I regret picking the topic I chose.
3.I learned that there isn’t enough support to from authors to show that I have a strong case. I really couldn’t include anything they said because it just made me sound dumb.
1) Some skills or techniques I liked using to research my topic and write my paper were annotation and the post-draft outline. Annotation really helped me understand what I was reading and write more about the topic I was learning about. The post-draft outline just proved that my paper flowed and that I had everything in order to make the paper sound even better.
ReplyDelete2) I think the only thing I need to improve is the way I organize my paper, I feel I can organize alright but then when I read it, everything seems out of order. I feel I need to improve my outlines better.
3) Some things I learned about my topic is that all people are different in the way they flirt and act around other people. The way some men act towards other woman and some woman act around other men. I also learned that flirting can be dangerous or it can benefit you. I learned that researching is the only hard part about a research paper, once you get the right info, all you have to do is organize what you’re going to write about and you’re ready to go.
1. The internet was an EXTREME help for my research project. I also used annotation which helped me to come up with my actual research question and I was able to follow through with the thesis. I know the internet helped out because it offered plenty of resources in order to obtain the correct information and statistics needed for my paper.
ReplyDelete2. There wasnt too much to improve on, at first it was unclear of what I really needes to accomplish but once I got the hang of it, it was a piece of cake. I would not revise the process I just know now to stay on topic.
3. I learned how terrible it is to binge drink. The statistics alone are enough to scare people out of doing it. I am not a drinker but many people I know are and I do not agree at all with that but now I have actual facts I can throw at them to help persuade them not to do so.
Some of the skills or techniques that I used to help me research my topic and write my paper were time-saving research techniques and annotation. I also used the internet and library to find other sources on my topic of flirting. They helped me be more successful because I was able to find my exact information in a lot less of a time, and when it came to writing my paper, I didn’t have to spend a lot of time adjusting or writing and thinking at the same time.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I would like to improve about my research process is how much time I spend on researching. Its very hard to find sources for me somehow and I would like to reduce the time I spend searching and add more time writing. That’s all I would revise about my process as well.
I would say as a college student I am basically an expert on the art of flirting, however I also found new information about it. I learned that most of the time flirting is more instinct than intentional. Also body postures aren’t usually directed as flirting however everyone thinks they are.
