A key factor in locating sources is using time efficiently. Once again, utilizing a method becomes vital to succeeding at this goal. Having a method to use each time we write provides a roadmap for more efficient and effective experiences. As we use the method, we can revise our steps and tinker as needed without having to "reinvent the wheel" for each new writing assignment. This method should cut down the time we need to spend researching because we won't waste time closely reading materials that won't help us directly answer our research question.
With this in mind, answer the following in your comment this blog:
- What is the research question you have chosen for your response paper?
- Based on your research question, where did you search for possible sources? What keywords did you use to search? Did you have to modify your search terms?
- Were you able to use the time-saving techniques discussed in class (titles, table of contents, indexes, abstracts, graphic highlights, section titles, introductions, conclusions, topic sentences)? Specifically describe two time-saving techniques you used and how they helped or why they didn't work for you.
For my research paper I have decided to try and find out what effect do video games play on the mental health of people. One of the places I searched that also helped me create my research question was a magazine in titled geek 411 they had an article in their latest issue about video games and how they affect the mental health of humans such as army soldiers with post traumatic stress disorder. I also used a basic Google search. For my key words I used my entire question to see what came and I got some credible sources from doing that so I didn’t really have to change anything for it. I was able to use some of the time saving ideas we used in class for the magazine article I found I was able to use the table of contents and found that article which saved a good amount of time instead of having to look through the entire magazine. For my Google search I used the abstract and what didn’t sound like it would be useful I didn’t bother to click the link seeing as how I didn’t think it would be helpful so that also helped to save time during research

ReplyDeleteThe article i chose for my research paper is why marriages fail. Upon finding my article i used a search engine to discover what other professionals had to say about the matter. When i used the search engine i made sure to type the questioning title of the article. The question used as the title for this article seemed to suffice for a Google search. My two used time saving techniques were based on titles and conclusions. Using the title you learn specifically what they are talking about which can limit your search for a certain subject. By viewing the conclusion you can decipher what the main points that the author covered without having to read through the entire essay or book to figure it out. Both methods worked fairly well.
I chose why marriages fail and decided to learn more about infidelity in marriage. I searched for research from self-help expects with PhD's, through their articles and books. Expects on infidelity in marriage. Books, articles. I was able to use a lot of techniques discussed in class and they helped to save time and more efficiently put my paper together.
ReplyDelete1. The article I chose was "Why We Flirt"
ReplyDelete2. I searched the internet and the pubic library. The possible sources I found was "Journal of Language and Social Psychology" and a book entitled "Flirting with Danger young womens reflections on sexuality and domination. Basically I went to google scholar and typed in flirtation and found everything I needed. I did'nt have to modify my search at all.
3.I was able to use time saving techniques, with the book " Flirting with Danger young womens reflections on sexuality" I was able to look at the table of contents and go straight to the chapter that I needed to pull information from there. By looking at the table of contents I was able to save time by jumping straight to the chapters I found to be most helpful.
