Writing is no different than these other skills. If you want to be successful, you have to practice the fundamentals, namely writing effective sentences and paragraphs. This makes perfect sense if you think about it; you can't write a good paragraph if you can't write solid, clear sentences. Likewise, you can't write an effective paper if you can't write paragraphs that convey a clear, unified message.
With this in mind, please answer the following questions as specifically and completely as possible (200 or so words) in a comment to this blog:
- How do you or have you used writing in your academic, professional, or personal life? What types of daily tasks require writing?
- What do you want to improve in your writing when it comes to sentences or paragraphs? Some examples of answers might be comma usage, correcting run-ons or fragments, writing effective topic sentences, supporting ideas in a paragraph better, etc.
- How can you practice proper writing techniques everyday?
1.) I use writing in all areas of my life. I have been an avid writer since I was capable of writing a coherant sentence. I wrote two books already in my life, although they sit in my closet collecting dust because im a coward and cant send them in, but thats irrelavant. I would be lost if I didnt have a source of writing to release my thoughts, and those sources could be a poem, a journal, a story. Writing frees my mind and makes me feel lighter. In my daily tasks I write lists to make sure I get all the important things done, because I can be forgetful, but im not dependent on those lists, im not going to freak out if I dont get everything done. I think I just like writing the list more than I like completing things. I keep the books for a buisness and I have to write down orders at my job because im a server, so pretty much I write all day everyday and I never get sick of it. I know im a freak!
ReplyDelete2.)I want to improve my run on sentence problem because although I have always done well in English classes, I usually am scolded about run-ons and I have been lectured on how to correct them. But as you can tell, I continue to do them, it annoys me. I am good at coming up with ideas, but im not always good on following the correct protocal, I do follow protocal about the thesis sentences and all the important things, as for style, I always go a diffrent way, because I cant do it there way. If I do I feel like I didnt convey my message right, Style is important to me and when I write it has to be my own or it just wont be good work. I guess Im stubborn and hard headed, but name a writer that isent like that about their work.
3.) I can pratice better writing skills by writing correctly in emails and not using slang or bad form, I could read a book and try to evaluate the sentences, there are a lot of ways, but i do naturally get a lot of pratice because I write all the time. Im a writer, but if I could make a point...writers usually are not always good at spelling and form, that is what editors are for. But I will really try to learn it the right way, I know it is important, but im afraid i might be too stuck in my bad habits by now. I guess we shall see if that little run on problem will finally kick the bucket in my life. Good luck...lol.
1.) everyday I use writing in my acedemics. If I dont write anything down then how would I be able to study what the key facts to studying are. Not everyone can memorize everything, I know I cant. Thats one way I know how to write everyday.
ReplyDelete2.) Actually there is a couple of things I want to work on. One would be writing effective sentences. I have never been that good at English class or even writing effective sentences. Another one would be supporting ideas better in paragraphs. Ever since I could remember I havent been able to write effective paragraphs to help my hole paper out. These are key things I have to work on to write a effective paper
3.) One way to practice proper writing techiniques would be to study the proper golden rules. Them rules are really true and helpful. Another way would be to keep the order of guidelines in mind. The guidelines to write sentences, paragraphs and even papers are all the same stragies.
1.I use writing in my academic and everyday life. These days it seems like I am sitting down every other day to write a paper for a class, or I am typing ideas into my cell phone at random when I have thoughts on a paper that is due. I am write constantly at both of my jobs, whenever someone calls the office they either want to make an appointment or they are calling about something that I really won’t remember the second I walk away from the phone so I write it down. When I am serving I am always writing orders down and running to a computer to type them in. I also write everyday sometimes twice a day in my journal. This has been something I have done forever, this form of writing helps me clear my head and say what really should not be said out loud.
ReplyDelete2.I would like to correct my little issues with run-on sentences. This has been an ongoing problem since grade school. Still to this day I do not know I am doing it. I would also like to brush up on proper comma placement and usage.
3.To practice proper writing skills I could actually pay attention to the way I write when I am writing in my journal, instead of just going a mile a minute jotting down whatever comes to mind in scribble. I could also work on the way I send emails to friends or text messages, although texting might be stretching it.
1. I use writing daily in my life. Basic writing skills are needed in my job to be effective in keeping records. I also use writing daily for my school work. I have to be able to take notes and do homework. 2. I would like to improve on proper punctuation skills. I would also like to improve on not writing run-on sentences. I would also like to be able to write effective sentences and paragraphs. 3. I can improve my writing skills by first off attending all my classes to get the instruction that I need. I will also ask questions whenever I am confused. I will use the proper techniches when writing e-mails. I will also practice by utilizing all the skills from this class in my other classes.
ReplyDelete1.) I use writing skills in my academic life more than the others.I write once and a while at work when I fill out write up slips or write a note to my boss. Not really any of my daily task require writing.2.)I want to improve all of my writing skills. I want to beable to write full sentences, and also understanding ones.I have never been good in english.3.)I can write letters to friends and family correctly I can do my homework in correct sentences as well.
ReplyDeleteI use writing almost everyday in my life. I use it in my acedemics for writing major papers and essays. I use it in my professional life to write up my resume, or for writing up the safety tips for my work. I also use it in my daily life like for writing down information for my research. I use it in emails. Also I am in a band, so I used writing to make lyrics for new songs.
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to writing my problem is usually using run-on sentences. I usually get caught up with an idea and keep going without making it a new sentence. I also forget commas at times.
As far as practicing writing techniques goes you can read a book on how to write properly and or listen to your teacher. You can also learn by writing a draft and reveiwing it to see what your mistakes were to fix them. I learn better by putting my learning towards something entertaining to me. I write song lyrics and that helps me learn techniques while still having fun. So there are multiple ways to learn these techniques, the key is to do it in a way you will learn it the best.

ReplyDelete1) In my academic life, I use writing everyday by taking notes in school. For me, my notes
ReplyDeleteare vital to me in studying. Some people can just hear something and remember it. Although for me, I need notes to remember almost everything. Also, by being a waitress, I use writing in jotting down orders and special instructions from customers. Text messaging is another way of writing in my daily life . As dumb as it sounds, its true. In working full time and going to school, it's a good way to keep in touch with my family and friends.
2) I feel like whenever I write papers or essays, I can never get my point across. I have always had a hard time in putting my thoughts down in words. Its like, I know what I want the reader to get out of my writing, but I do not know how to explain it. If that even made any sense...
3) A good way to practice proper writing techniques daily is to keep a journal. Just writing down the days events or your feelings everyday, is a good way to strengthen your writing. Of course, your writing will only even stronger if you are using proper grammar and punctuation.
