Remember, revising is the third stage of our writing process. In terms of the total time spent on a writing project, it should make up 50%-60% of the efforts.
As a part of our revision process for this paper, we participated in a peer review. We said that a peer review can be beneficial in many ways. Here is your chance to reflect on how our peer review can help or has helped you revise your draft.
Please respond to the following questions in your comment:
- How have you revised in the past? Did you spend 50% of your time on this process?
- Name and explain two strengths that the peer review revealed about your paper.
- Name and explain two things that the peer review exposed about your paper that needed improvement.
- Other than peer review, what revision technique(s) will you use for this paper or in the future?
1. I have first looked for easy mistakes like puncuation, misspelled word, and capitalization. After that i would try to find the best ideas and take the worst ones and take them out. I would see if they liked the way i did it to see if they want to change it. No I did not spend 50% of my time on this process. I spent most of the time writing it.
ReplyDelete2. One stregth that peer review is that it has other peoples input on ways to make it better. Another strength is that other people can pick out the misstakes you have made.
3. One thing that peer review exosed about you paper is details. They will tell you what details to get rid of and what ones to keep.
4. I would let more people look at it. I probably would let two more people look at my paper after i make changes every time.
1- I just took out what I didnt like and added what I wanted to add, then I checked spelling and all that good stuff, I actually spent more time writing it then revising in the past.
ReplyDelete2- I had good ides and I had a good thesis, I made good points.
3-I need to make my topic sentences more obvious to the reader and I need to re-word things so they are not too confusing.
4-lol- I have my grandmother check my spelling and other mistakes because she has a good eye for it and she is tedious.
I would usually re read and have some one look it over for me. i would look for my careless mistakes that i easly make. I never spent a lot of time on the revision process I didn’t think it was a big deal but now I know how important it is.
ReplyDeleteI wasn’t there for the peer review so I didn’t have any thing exposed or have strengths that needed improvement.
I will use any of the new techniques we have learned in class. I think they can make a paper a lot stronger.
1) I start with a copy that i write out not type out first. Then i do my own checking and make sure everything is spelled write and make sure i have appropriate punctuation. Yes i make mistakes and don't find all my errors.
ReplyDelete2) For me i have more than 2 people look over my paper even after i look at it again. So with that they always find little things like spelling a word a different way that it shouldn't be. Then they always help with the revising of the sentence structure. Yes sometimes we all have really good structure for the sentence but sometimes we don't and that's were letting other people peer review it comes in handy. 3) They help you out with switching sentences around so they fall into place. Also give you very good details that you knew yourself, but just couldn't remember at that point of time. Plus details that you didn't even know. 4) I would look more into detailed sentence's myself because when you do that the paper turns out to be always longer and it attends to meet the criteria you need for the paper.
In the past I have revised by just going over my own paper and trying to find all my own mistakes. I did not spend 50% of my time revising in the past. I also dont honestly feel that I wil in the future spend that amount either. I just think it takes longer to come up with and write the idea than to check it. Peer review , I think is a good idea because other people tend to see things you did not. They may also notice things that you as the writer would not because you know what to expect when you proofread but they do not so for instance they will read it word for word. I did not have a per review done of my paper but Mr. Snow did assist me with better wording my topic sentence. I also rearranged some of the ideas in my paragraphs. I will try to use peer review in the future as a revision tool. I think a second or third set of eyes can't hurt.
